To better understand runner-related injuries, researchers in the Netherlands followed almost 1,700 novice runners to measure their incidence of injury during a 6-week training period.  They found that approximately 10% of the runners sustained injuries requiring them to miss at least three consecutive running sessions.  In general, runners who were older, heavier, inexperienced, or who’d had previous non-sports-related injuries were at the greatest risk of injury.
